Chemical warfare was a major concern after World War I. An important agreement was reached with the "Protocol for the Prohibition of the Use in War of Asphyxiating, Poisonous or Other Gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare" (Geneva, 17 June 1925, in force since 1928).
