Downloading eBooks

Depending on publisher determined access rights, our ebook providers offer the opportunity to download whole ebooks or chapters of ebooks for offline use.

Format availability information is stated on the ebook landing page of the title chosen and accessed using your library's Global Search catalogue.

eBooks/chapters as PDF files

Our ebook providers do offer the opportunity to download books and sections of books in PDF format, although the number of pages that can be downloaded in one session may be limited.

Adobe Reader software is required to download PDF files:

eBooks as EPUB files

Our eBook platforms also permit downloading of eBooks in a special electronic publications (EPUB) format for reading on an e-reader application.

Generally this format is considered a virtual "loan", meaning that it will be virtually returned at the end of the loan period (it will disappear from the e-reader library to which it was downloaded). eBooks can also be renewed and returned early.

To download and read books in EPUB format you will need to:

1. Install eBook reader (e-reader) software

EPUB files can only be opened with specific software.  Below are links to two examples of software that can read EPUB files, Adobe Digital Editions, and Bluefire Reader, both of which are free to download and will work with files from many different sources:

For Windows PC/Mac

 For mobile devices

2. Create an Adobe ID

In order to use the software for access to eBooks in this format, you must also log in with an Adobe ID.  This safeguard ensures that readers respect the copyright and terms of use for these resources.

An Adobe ID can be created for free.
