Some of the most characteristic activities of the Health Organization were: prevention and control of diseases, surveillance of epidemics, standardization of sera, vaccines and biological products, exchange of health personnel, organization of sanitary conferences and courses, rural hygiene, nutrition, urban and rural housing.
After the League of Nations folded in 1946, the Health Organization became the World Health Organization.

The Executive Board is composed of 34 technically qualified members elected for three-year terms. The main functions of the Board are to implement the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, and to advise and generally facilitate its work.

The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the key role of public health leadership by cities, at the forefront of rapid response while working toward healthier, longer lives for all urban residents.

Yet, despite this impact, large gaps also exist in many countries between mental health needs and the availability and accessibility of the mental health systems and services to address them. In response to these challenges, WHO has developed a policy brief describing the interconnections between climate change and mental health and providing five key recommendations on potential approaches to address the mental health impacts of the climate crisis.”

It takes on average 17 years for applied health research to translate into policies, products, or technologies. This lack of speed costs the global economy millions of dollars and has an untold impact on lives. The second Global Evidence-to-Policy Summit will be an opportunity for researchers, policy-makers, and knowledge brokers to exchange ideas and inspiration to enhance evidence-informed decision-making.

Member countries, and observers representing food sectors, food law and analysis, were brought together to develop the Codex Alimentarius, an international food code aimed at protecting the health of consumers and facilitating fair practices in food trade.

The Global Model WHO will provide an authentic student-led simulation of the World Health Assembly (WHA) to high school and university students from all over the world and from different academic disciplines. Students can register individually or as part of a school or university delegation.
The Global Model WHO aims to be inclusive and diverse in participation ensuring representation from different disciplines, geographical regions, gender identities and income settings.

During the "Unstoppable Together: Celebrating 2 Years of Youth-Led Global Action" main virtual event on 15 February, the GYM will launch its final impact report, including project case studies, highlighting the reach, impact and investment in young people engaged in addressing the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
