Whenever a major news event happens at the United Nations in Geneva, have you ever wondered how the world’s TV channels get hold of broadcast-quality video footage for their reports?
For many years, this service has been guaranteed by a special agreement between UNTV Geneva and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It’s all thanks to the public service broadcaster’s News Exchange, which operates in more than 50 countries and offers EBU Members around 100 edited news, radio and sports items, as well as almost 17 hours of live content, every single day.
The News Exchange celebrates its 60th birthday on 28 September, so to mark this date, I’ve been getting the inside story from EBU senior editors Emilio San Pedro and Emilie De Schaetzen.
