Remote Access: OpenAthens FAQ

Remote access is available to staff whose assigned offices are in the Palais des Nations (UNOG, UNCTAD, UNECE, etc.) or at UNHCR

Presenting OpenAthens

The Library has switched from its previous remote access system for e-resources ("EZ Proxy") to a new and better system called OpenAthens.

OpenAthens became available December 2021, and EZ Proxy was retired in April 2022.

OpenAthens has been configured to work with Microsoft Azure Authentication, which means most staff (with exceptions for some such as those with @un.org emails like UNHCR & ILC colleagues) have automatic access!

UNHCR staff and ILC colleagues must sign in with Personal Accounts, however we have already imported the credentials of those UNHCR staff who had access via our previous system ("EZ Proxy").

For such staff without a Personal Account account already, please request one here!

Azure Authentication is the same system you use when signing into MS Outlook in a web browser.
When signing into OpenAthens you will be re-directed to Azure sign in.

Some Temporary Interruptions

There are some access issues with some Oxford resources. These issues are on the vendor side.
We are working with the vendor to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.

If you notice any issues, then please let us know here: https://unog.libwizard.com/f/OpenAthens_Issues
We will attempt to provide a workaround for any issues so that you can have access to the content in the meantime.
