Conference primer: Peace and Security: 2024

In convening this conference, the Committee aims at strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations, identifying common priorities and messaging on core and emerging topics, discussing the responsibility of Member States to prevent and to protect the Palestinian people, and ensuring accountability as a fundamental requirement for the justice that is vital for peace. The conference will also aim at facilitating partnerships among CSOs worldwide working for a just and lasting solution to the question of Palestine.

SAMAH SISAY, Attorney at the US Centre for Constitutional Rights (CCR), said the Centre worked to advocate for the rights of Palestinians in the United States and supported the work of the International Court of Justice into investigating human rights violations in Palestine.

He noted the Conference aimed to gain the attention of civil society organizations from around the globe. Voices for peace and reason were so necessary in these times of painful polarisation.

It contains both guidance and training documents on a variety of thematic areas including on Child Protection, The Peacekeeping Resource Hub is designed to serve as the primary resource for Member States, Peacekeeping Training Institutes, Peacekeeping Operations and the UN's partners on peacekeeping-related issues in all six official languages.

With a staggering 4,200 people killed, over one million people displaced in just 10 days, and large areas in the Gaza Strip reduced to rubble, we have grave fears about the toll on civilians in the coming days. Military operations show no signs of abating, the continued siege on Gaza is affecting water supply, food, medicine and other basic needs, and there are daily indications of violations of the laws of war and international human rights law.

The system is used in emergency-affected countries and fragile, conflict-affected and vulnerable settings that are priority areas of the WHO Health Emergencies Programme. The dashboard aggregates global data and allows users to filter the data for tailored analysis.
