Welcome to the Research Guide on  Disarmament during the League of Nations!

This guide combines primary and secondary sources from both the archives and library of the United Nations at Geneva, along with links to other relevant resources.

The guide can be used as a tool to jump-start a research process, or just to gain insight on what role the League of Nations played on the international scale.

League of Nations: Important dates

22 August 1864: First Geneva Convention for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded in Armies in the Field, later revised and replaced in 1906, 1929, and 1949
1914 – 1918: The First World War
10 January 1920: Treaty of Versailles and the foundation of the League of Nations
15 November 1920: The First Assembly of the League of Nations held in Geneva
1 November 1920 – 17 February 1936: The League was hosted the Palais Wilson in Geneva 
​4 May to 17 June 1925: The 1925 Geneva Protocol was drawn up and signed at a conference which was held in Geneva under the auspices of the League of Nations
1932 – 1934: World Disarmament Conference takes place in Geneva
17 February 1936:  Palace of Nations (French: Palais des Nations) in Geneva was built to host the League of Nations
19 April 1946: The League of Nations ceases to exist and hands over its legacy to the United Nations
